NHS Scotland launches national recruitment campaign
The Scottish Government has today (25 Nov) launched a campaign to encourage young people to choose a career in healthcare.
The aim of the campaign, “What did you do today”, aims to highlight the range of opportunities available within health care and the ‘positive and diverse’ aspects to the role.
It comes as new research shows nearly two thirds (65%) of adults in Scotland view nursing as a positive career choice.
A YouGov survey, commissioned by the Scottish Government revealed that 69% of 18-24-year olds viewed nursing positively compared to 61% of 45-54-year olds.
Results also indicated that many people are may not realise the variety of prospects a career in nursing can bring.
38% believe that one of its greatest benefits is that every day is different, and only 34% think that nursing provides a range of career paths.
The national campaign, running across cinema, TV, newspapers, radio, online and social media, will outline all the different healthcare professions from midwifery to paramedics.
Health Secretary Jeane Freeman said:
“Trying to decide what career you will follow is both exciting and at times, a bit daunting. A career in healthcare is one of the most diverse and rewarding jobs a young person can pursue – and we want to support them.
“As well as an undergraduate bursary of £10,000 available for those choosing to study nursing or midwifery in 2020, a nursing, midwifery, allied health profession or healthcare science degree is highly valued, both here in Scotland and all over the world.
“Our dedicated NHS staff are the beating heart of our health service and it is vital that we help support the nurses, midwives and healthcare professionals of the future.”
The campaign features different healthcare professionals explaining the life-saving work they did that day, to show the importance of their roles within the NHS.
