£28m mental health facility funded through LIFT
Mersey Care trust’s new specialist health facility has reached financial close, Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnership (LSHP) has announced.
The £28m facility in Walton is the ninth LSHP project and the largest single tranche of the LIFT programme in Merseyside.
The mental health facility will cater for 85 single occupancy bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, and each ward will be supported by courtyard facilities and communal areas.
Construction will be undertaken by FHJV, a joint venture company of Farrans and Heron Brothers.
John Doyle, project director at Mersey Care NHS Trust, said: “Walton is the culmination of hard work, consultation and negotiation to create a facility at the leading edge of 21st Century mental healthcare provision. Critical to the process was aligning the development scheme with the affordability of the service model.”
Mike Chambers, LSHP director and Community Health Partnerships regional director for the North commented: “I am delighted to see such an important development move into construction and ultimately, to ensure that high quality premises are made available for the delivery of psychiatric care within the local community.”
Graham Pink, chief executive of LSHP added: “This much-needed facility will help transform in-patient mental health care provision in Merseyside, and at the same time create much needed jobs.
“Over the past seven years, LSHP has been instrumental in the revolution of primary and community care across Liverpool and Sefton and this is our first mental health facility. We want to make a tangible difference to the local communities we work in, particularly as the Government’s spending cuts are likely to hit some of the services we support extremely hard over the coming years.
“It is our hope that investments made into schemes like this state-of-the-art facility will serve the community well over coming years and will act as a catalyst for further development in the area.”
