Clerical staff go on strike over job cuts
NHS staff are striking over job cuts at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs hospitals in Dewsbury, Wakefield, and Pontefract.
74 employees were sent redundancy letters as part of restructuring plans to save £24m by April 2013.
Administrative and clerical staff last month voted 88% in favour of the one-day strike action, according to Unison. The trust said all services would run as normal.
Community clinics across Wakefield have also been affected.
Unison regional organiser Jim Bell told the BBC: “Management have left us with no alternative.”
The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We would like to provide reassurance that we are running all services for patients as normal.”
