Closure confirmed for ‘failing’ Belton Surgery
Belton Surgery, serving 1,200 patients, will close in June, NHS Norfolk and Waveney has confirmed. The surgery had failed to meet clinical standards and was likely to fail inspection, the trust stated.
A substitute surgery is available three miles away in Bradwell. The trust is currently exploring transport options for patients living in Belton.
A trust spokesman said there was not “an affordable option that provides value for money for the public” to relocate the surgery in the village.
Andrew Morgan, chief executive of NHS Norfolk and Waveney, said: “We went into this trying to find workable solutions so we could keep a surgery in Belton.
“We’re disappointed, we know the disappointment of local people will be far greater and I understand that.
“I hope they’ll understand we tried to find a solution but NHS resources are stretched and we’ve had to reach a difficult and unpalatable conclusion.”
