India and UK sign new deal on healthcare
The UK and India have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on health sector issues.
Skills for Health and India’s Healthcare Sector Skill Council (HSSC) have recognised a “huge scope” for learning between the two countries. This includes working to create quality vocational education in India and for the UK to learn to make its system more industry-aligned, participative and self-reliant.
The MoU will focus on: developing occupational standards; developing the labour market information system for India; e-learning; product development for improving efficiency of healthcare in India; apprenticeship exchange programme for service providers; collaboration on simulator-based training; and exploring avenues for financial support.
The MoU was signed by John Rogers, CEO of Skills for Health, and Dr Naresh Trehan, chairman of the Healthcare Sector Skill Council. The MoU was formally announced yesterday during Prime Minister David Cameron’s state visit to India.
