Medway NHS FT must do more to deliver change – Monitor
Urgent action is needed to deliver improvements for patients at Medway NHS FT, Monitor has announced.
Problems at the trusts are broader than those identified by the Keogh review in August, after which it was put in special measures. Jonathan Guppy was appointed improvement director to support the trust, and found a credible strategy was needed for the organisation as a whole.
Monitor has called for the trust to set out and stick to a plan to transform services, address poor A&E performance and rectify issues identified by the CQC in midwifery and maternity services.
A new condition has been imposed on the trust’s licence to allow Monitor to ensure appropriate leadership to deliver necessary improvements.
Paul Streat, regional director at Monitor, said: “We know that staff are working hard to improve the quality of the trust’s services, but we need the organisation’s leadership to do more to make sure that urgent change happens quickly. The new licence condition gives us the power to make changes at the top if the current leadership fails to deliver.”
