Paramedic struck off for downloading indecent images of children

A paramedic has been struck off after being convicted of making indecent photos or pseudo-photos of children.

Jason Williams has been struck off the Health Professions Council (HPC) Register following the conviction at Lincoln Crown Court.

The HPC panel heard that the 41-year-old former East Midlands Ambulance Service employee downloaded 552 indecent images of children from a German-based website.

Williams, formerly of Pettit Way , Fishtoft near Boston, Lincolnshire, pleaded guilty to the charges.

He received a community order of 36 months and was given a supervision order, requiring him to attend a community group work programme for sex offenders, and ordered to sign the sex offender’s register for five years.

HPC panel chairman Ian Griffiths said: “The Registrant as a paramedic is inevitably going to come into contact with vulnerable patients and children, and there remains a future risk with regard to Jason Williams’ conduct.

“The Panel considers that any offence relating to child pornography involves some degree of exploitation or abuse of a child, and a conviction for such an offence is a serious matter which undermines public trust in the registrant and the profession concerned.”

The panel struck Williams from the Register with an Interim Suspension Order in place to cover the appeal period. Williams was not present and not represented at the hearing.
