New King’s Fund chief executive announced
The King’s Fund has appointed its current director of policy to replace Professor Sir Chris Ham as chief executive of the charity from the start of next year.
Richard Murray will replace Sir Chris, who will step down at the end of 2018, as chief executive of the think thanks. Murray is due to take up the post on 2 January 2019.
Murray joined the charity in 2014 and is currently the head of the team, holding responsibilities such as overseeing the policy work programme and contributing to the wider work of the Fund, particularly to understand the challenges and opportunities facing health and care
Murray said: “After five very enjoyable years at the Fund, I am thrilled to be taking over as chief executive. With the health and care system facing significant challenges, our role in providing high-quality, independent policy analysis and supporting leaders has never been more vital.
“It will be a privilege to continue working with such a talented group of people and to lead such a great organisation.”
Before joining The King’s Fund, Murray was chief analyst at NHS England and held different roles at the Department of Health and Social Care; including senior economic adviser, director of strategy, and director of financial planning,
Chairman of The King’s Fund Board of Trustees, Sir Christopher Kelly, said Murray had “made a significant contribution” to the Fund’s work.
“I am confident that he will build on the Fund’s achievements in recent years and that the organisation will go from strength to strength under his leadership,” he added.
