New revalidation e-portfolio for doctors
A group of medical royal colleges have launched an online revalidation portfolio for their members.
The new online system will allow doctors to securely record, manage and facilitate submission of their supporting information for revalidation, including CPD, and the results of 360-degree appraisal and patient feedback.
The system is optional, but aimed especially at doctors with no electronic appraisal system at their own organisation, or those who move frequently between organisations.
The portfolio, developed with Equiniti 360° Clinical, will cover the following colleges: The College of Emergency Medicine, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Royal College of Physicians of London, Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
The RCP was the lead agent and project co-ordinator, with the support and financial backing of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.
It has promised the new system will be simple, accessible, customisable, secure, future-proof and time-saving.
Members of the relevant colleges will get emails and other communications explaining how to access the portfolio,
Dr Andrew Goddard, chair of the medical Royal colleges revalidation cohort group, said: “Work on the revalidation portfolio started four years ago when it became clear there would not be a tool developed by the NHS. The Academy of Medical Royal Colleges was given funding by the DH to develop an electronic revalidation portfolio and has brought seven medical Royal colleges together to achieve this. Despite the different colleges having different requirements, it was possible to meld requirements and come up with a system to suit everyone.
“The portfolio allows large amounts of information to be stored remotely and can be accessed from any secure PC. Supporting information can be kept for as long as needed and clinicians can choose to show or not show their information to their appraisers as needed.”
