The future hospital?
The Future Hospital Commission has set the bar high for the NHS; 50 recommendations range from organisational structure to patient respect and new clinical and management roles for staff.
It’s an incredibly detailed and comprehensive report, bringing together many of the reforms that have been identified as vital for a better service – but that have not yet been achieved.
24/7 consultant cover, standardised care throughout the week and weekend, patient involvement in their care and closer ties with community care to provide a continuous service.
The RCP has assured the FHC that this report will not be left on a shelf to gather dust. But the recommendations are ambitious, and will take more than agreement throughout the NHS to deliver.
