Hot on the heels of Jean Gomes’ appointment at University College London Global Business School for Health (UCL GBSH), the institution has now announced that American healthcare expert, Lawrence Hamilton, will also join as an honorary professor of practice.
Lawrence is currently executive vice president of performance at The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG), which is one of the most distinguished physician-led medical groups in the US.
At TPMG, he is responsible for improving performance and advancing learning for its 47,000 employees, as well as fostering the next generation of healthcare leaders.
Lawrence’s past experience includes spending five years as CEO at Aga Khan Health Service in Tanzania, plus a stint as deputy CEO at the old North West London NHS Hospitals Trust here in the UK.
At UCL GBSH, Lawrence will give students unique insight into running one of the largest healthcare systems in the US.
“I am honoured that Lawrence is joining UCL GBSH as Honorary Professor of Practice as we look forward to the launch of our new Undergraduate course in the year ahead,” said Professor Nora Colton, the school’s director.
“This is an important milestone for the School in providing first-class healthcare management education, and bringing Lawrence on board provides our students with the opportunity to learn from one of the biggest healthcare systems in America.”
Lawrence added: “It’s an honour to join the first global business school devoted to health, at UCL, one of the world’s top 10 universities.
“UCL GBSH takes pride in ‘disruptive, critical thinking and widespread influence for the long-term benefit of humanity, dedicated to practical impact and improving society’.”
Lawrence’s appointment follows a number of high-profile incomings at UCL GBSH this year, including former Australian health minister, Greg Hunt.
