Thanks to its support during the transition to integrated care boards (ICBs), NHS Shared Business Services (NHS SBS) has landed a Finance Team of the Year – Enterprise award.
The award is in recognition of the organisation’s stellar work during the largest NHS restructuring in a decade – ICBs supplanting clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and managing the provision and budget of healthcare in a specific area.
As part of the transformation, experts at NHS SBS worked with NHS England to close down 106 CCG ledgers and create 42 new ones for the incoming ICBs.
This involved the extraction, cleansing, importing and reconciliation of data at a “colossal” level.
The work included 1,100 data templates from legacy ledgers, 106,000 accounts payable and 5,000 accounts receivable open transactions, as well as more than 400 general ledger journals being transferred between organisations.

An added functionality in the shape of a list of all the accounts that need to be used to record financial transactions was also added to the ICB chart of accounts to promote more advanced reporting.
NHS SBS say that, without the close partnership with NHS England, the work would have been even more challenging, particularly given the mid-year switch.
Such was the success of the project, ICBs have been able to report more consistently and improve consolidation.
The award was given at the digital finance function awards, which celebrates high-performing teams spearheading change in the industry with a continued commitment to excellence in the industry.
