The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has announced the appointment of Dyfed Alsop as its new Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer, effective from 1 May 2025.
Dyfed joins UKHSA from the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA), where he has served as Chief Executive since 2017. His extensive leadership experience includes senior roles at the Valuation Office Agency, HM Treasury, and HM Revenue & Customs.
Commenting on his appointment, Dfyed said:
“I’m delighted to be joining UKHSA at such an interesting time in the organisation’s development. I’m looking forward to getting out and about to meet people and learn more about the important work that UKHSA does.
“I’m passionate about public service and the potential we have collectively to make a difference. I can’t wait to get started.”

In his new role, Dyfed will work closely with UKHSA Chief Executive Jenny Harries and the Executive Committee to ensure a smooth transition of leadership and operations ahead of Jenny Harries' departure in early summer. As Deputy Chief Executive, Dyfed will also cover the CEO role until a new chief executive is appointed.
Harries also spoke about the decision, saying:
“I am absolutely delighted to welcome Dyfed to our organisation as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy CEO. His extensive experience in public and private sectors, combined with his strong track record in delivering transformation and managing complex operations, makes him ideally suited for this role. Dyfed’s appointment strengthens our Executive Committee team and his expertise and leadership style will be invaluable as we continue to develop our people, embed a new culture and grow our organisation.”
Dyfed has already begun engaging with the agency, attending meetings and building relationships ahead of his formal start date.
