People in the south of England are set to benefit from more centralised healthcare as the new Healthier Together website launches.
The new website will serve the public in Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes and will feature information for everyone from pregnant women and their partners, all the way to children and their partners.
The core principles of the website centre around ensuring:
- Parents feel empowered about knowing when and where to seek healthcare advice;
- Parents are signposted to appropriate healthcare services when they do need advice;
- Healthcare practitioners have a clear understanding of the limits of their own knowledge and understand when to seek guidance themselves;
- Parents are provided with consistent advice across all services in the region;
- Local referral pathways and clinical guidelines are standardised;
- Good communication between the region’s healthcare professionals and organisations is practiced.
Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board’s Clinical Director for Maternity and Children’s Services, Dr Sanhita Chakrabarti, said the vision behind the website was about creating a resource that helps the local health service better partner with the people it serves, from pregnancy up through to adolescence.
Dr Chakrabarti said: “Whatever the age of your child, you’re probably going to have questions. The website has been designed as a self-care resource with a wide range of information leaflets and videos to support you as a parent or carer, when your child is unwell. Maybe you just want to check what’s normal if you’re a brand new parent, or you need a reminder about the immunisations and vaccinations schedule for your baby.
“As youngsters grow up, they can find more information for themselves, and our site will continue to provide information they need about puberty, healthy eating, exam pressure and mental health.
“Whichever sort of advice you need, you’ll be able to find it at Healthier Together.”
