The latest statistics have shown how crucial a part of UK culture and health infrastructure the NHS remains, as officials estimate that the NHS website has been visited more than one billion times in the last 12 months.
The figures released by NHS Digital show that, between October 2021 and September 2022, the health monolith’s main website was visited approximately 1.2 billion times – the equivalent to 23 million views every week and 2,300 visits per minute.
The most popular sections of the website included:
- The Book a coronavirus vaccination page – 131 million visits
- The BMI healthy weight calculator page – 22 million visits
- The NHS App and your NHS account page – 17 million visits
- The Find your NHS number page – 10.6 million visits
- The Applying for healthcare cover abroad (GHIC and EHIC) page – 9.2 million visits
- The Flu vaccine page – 6.5 million views
Rounding out the top 10 were other popular sections like the high blood pressure page, the chickenpox page, the ADHD page, and the fever page.
Robert Cleary, NHS Digital’s content director for the NHS website, said: “The NHS website is the UK's biggest health website, with an average of 23 million visits each week during the past 12 months. Millions of people have used the website for the latest Covid information or to book a vaccination, as well as for advice on topics ranging from high blood pressure to chest infections.
“We also make information from the NHS website available to hundreds of other websites and apps as well as on smart speakers, making it as easy as possible for people to access the latest medical advice.”
Millions of people access the NHS’s website every week looking for everything from advice on how to lose weight, how to book a potentially life-saving vaccination, or to research one of the 990 different medical conditions indexed and comprehensively detailed.
