A £24.6m community diagnostic centre (CDC) in Leicestershire is one step closer to delivery after planning permission was unanimously granted by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, NHS Property Services (NHSPS) has announced.
With works starting this month, experts believe the new CDC will be up and running by early next year, as NHSPS and NHS Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Integrated Care Board continue to finalise construction plans.
The local council approved the planning proposal which set out a circa 2,000sqm CDC that could deliver 89,000 tests a year across a broad range of diagnostic capabilities, including:
- X-Ray
- CT
- MRI
- Endoscopy
- Ultrasound
“We are pleased the Borough Council has been able to support this major scheme investment, achieving a key milestone recently with the council’s planning committee approving the application to build a much-needed community diagnostic centre on Mount Road, Hinckley,” said the council’s CEO, Bill Cullen.
“Once complete, the centre will provide a local and easily accessible service for our residents, something which will improve our residents’ quality of life and may help to save lives.”
While the tests will be delivered by University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, the actual construction will first be handled by Darwin Group.
As a result of the project’s innovative offsite modular construction methods, NHSPS says the Hinckley’s CDC will be delivered up to 60% faster and with up to 90% less waste than traditional building methods.
“This is a very important milestone and we’re delighted that we can now progress with the build of Hinckley CDC,” added Andrew Strange, estate strategy lead at NHSPS.
“Diagnosing serious illnesses is integral, especially in areas where there are inequalities in obtaining excellent healthcare. As such, we’re looking forward to commencing works and delivering this important health facility in Hinckley.”
