The world’s first business school dedicated to health at University College London (UCL) has appointed leadership expert, Jean Gomes, as an honorary professor of practice in the school’s latest move to cement itself as a centre of academic excellence.
Jean has more than three decades’ experience in business and management, having mentored over 80 CEOs and senior leaders in sectors ranging from elite sport to financial services.
His work in elite sport includes:
- Being a performance coach on the Women’s Tennis Association board
- Creating a new leadership strategy for the British Olympic community
- Coaching the leadership of the Lawn Tennis Association
In his role at the UCL Global Business School for Health (GBSH), Jean will explore the theory behind fostering a sustainable, productive and motivate workforce, including how this can be achieved within healthcare.

Jean, who is the founder and CEO of Outside, a CEO advisory practice, said: “The healthcare challenges in the coming decades will require disruptive business models and fundamental mindset shifts amongst patients, practitioners and leaders in health systems and government.
“I’m honoured to help UCL GBSH’s faculty and students by collaborating on research in mindset practices that help individuals and systems make better sense of themselves in a changing world and strengthen their wellbeing and resilience.”
“UCL GBSH is delighted to welcome Jean Gomes to the diverse group of leaders and academics working to challenge the status quo in healthcare management,” added Professor Nora Colton, director at UCL GBSH.
“As we look ahead to a period of significant growth with our undergraduate course launching in Autumn 2025, we want to bring some of the brightest minds in the industry on board for the benefit of our students and research.”
Jean has previously lectured at Oxford University and co-authored a New York Times bestseller.
